Check out my blog, to see what the latest radio news in my life is.

Hello friend! Welcome to my personal amateur radio website, where I write about my experiences, knowledge, and other things. It’s great to have you here!

I got my ticket in 1997 and upgraded to Extra in March, 2017. In December 2017, I obtained my current callsign, ND0TS.

I have been interested in radio for as long as I can remember. The thing that really boosted my interest was when I was 17 years old and my dad brought home a CB radio, a 1KW amplifier, and Starduster antenna. At the time, I didn’t realize how illegal it was to have such a base station, but the experience that I got and the contacts that I made simply fueled the fire even more.

I didn’t realize until many years later how much my father knew about radio, and the ability to get such a powerful (albeit illegal) radio on the air and sounding as good as it did. I also wondered why he never actually got an amateur radio license so he could dive into the hobby even more. I never got the chance to ask him, and I never will, but he did spark my interest, and for that I am grateful.

Before that, when I was somewhere around 7 to 9 years old, I remember my step father trying to learn Morse Code. He’d listen to the tapes and I’d hear all the dots and dashes, but I never really knew, at the time, what it was. He used to buy things from Heathkit and build other electronic things all the time. At that age, I just wasn’t that “into it”, though. I would have rather been outside, playing in the woods and getting dirty. He never actually got his ticket. Some people can “get” Morse Code, and some can’t. Back then, it was needed, but he never mastered it.

At this time, my interest in the hobby is mainly in HF. I like to try my hand at all of the various state QSO parties, participating in contests, and chasing special event stations and POTA. I’m sure that those interests will change with time, since there’s a wide array of different things to get interested in, with this hobby.

I started the QRZ logbook, below, on December 20, 2017. I made 22 contacts between then and April 20, 2018. Once I got my OCFD in the air, on April 20th, things really took off.
